Junior second baseman Carlos Lopez (2019)

Baseball handles Ocoee
4/29/2019 8:51:00 PM

Will Sullivan belted his tenth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth, to give Baseball a 5-1 lead and the Panthers held off a seventh-inning rally to beat Ocoee, 6-4. DP took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when CJ Cantwell singled, advanced to third on a base hit by Will Sullivan, and scored on a wild pitch. After conceding a run back to the visiting Knights in the second, the Panthers jumped back on top in the home half. Junior Carlos Lopez ripped a one-out triple into the gap in right field and scored on James Hurst's RBI single for a 2-1 lead. In the fourth, Brandon Fields led off the inning with a double into left field and came home on Carlos Lopez' single to center. The Panthers added two more in the fifth when Raymond Negron legged out an infield single and Will Sullivan got the green light on 3-0 and smacked a line drive over the right field fence to push the lead to 5-1. Noah Sullivan ignited the Panthers again in the home sixth with an infield single and Luis Rodriguez, running for Sullivan, stole second and third before scoring on Derek Arroyo's groundout. Down 6-1, Ocoee would put together a rally in the seventh, plating three runs, but it was too little, too late, as DP (16-6) picked up their eighth victory in their last ten games. CJ Cantwell got the start on the mound and pitched four strong innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking our seven to earn the victory. Noah Sullivan came on in relief and finished the final three innings allowing one earned run while fanning two. DP will host Colonial Tuesday afternoon on Senior Day with the first pitch at 4:00 pm followed by the Senior Day ceremony at game's end.
