Sophomore Max Plavcan vs. Olympia (2011)

Mens Soccer draws with Apopka
1/10/2013 11:51:00 PM

Arguably the hottest team on campus right now, and owners of the biggest mid-season turnaround, is Men's Soccer. Last night at Apopka, junior Gabriel Mesquita knocked one into the back of the net from 25 yards out in the 65th minute to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead and they hung on to draw with the host Blue Darters, 1-1. Junior Andres Alvarez had another strong performance in the cage, finishing with eight saves, and junior Evan Barnes secured Man of the Match honors for spectacular defensive play. DP's defensive back four of Barnes, Colin Cleven, David DiMauro and Tommy DiMauro, along with midfielder Max Plavcan, continues to be the unsung heroes in the Panthers second half resurgence. While they may not pile up the statistics, they've kept the opposition from doing the same as DP (5-5-4) is now unbeaten in eight of their last nine matches.  They'll wrap up their regular season slate at home vs. Seminole next Friday night at 7:00 pm, with the District Tournament the following week. Men's JV Soccer wrapped up their season in solid form with a 3-2 victory over host Apopka to finish their season with a record of 5-8.
