Senior outfielder CJ Cantwell (2019)

Baseball whips Winter Park, 8-3
5/1/2019 9:36:00 PM

Baseball recovered from an early one-run deficit with seven consecutive runs to pull away from host Winter Park, 8-3. DP (18-6), winner of four straight and ten of their last 12 to close out the regular season, pounded out six doubles, two off the bat of CJ Cantwell. With the Panthers holding a 4-2 lead in the top of the seventh and the bases loaded, Cantwell went opposite field, lining a two-out double into left field that scored Luis Rodriguez, Carlos Lopez and Jacob Hartman to put the game away for good. DP took an early 1-0 lead in the second when Brandon Fields stroked a leadoff double and scored on Carlos Lopez' sacrifice fly. Winter Park would respond with two runs in the second but Mitchell  Stockwell was nearly flawless over the next three innings which allowed the Panthers to surge ahead. In the visiting third, Raymond Negron singled, moved to third on Will Sullivan's double, and scored on Diego Garcia's groundout to knot the score at 2-2. Brandon Fields followed with an RBI triple to right field to bring home Sullivan with the go-ahead run. The Panthers would add another run in the fourth after Carlos Lopez doubled to lead off the inning and came home on an RBI base hit by Jacob Hartman. Fast forward to the top of the seventh with the score still 4-2 and DP opened up the floodgates. Back-to-back singles by Noah Sullivan and Carlos Lopez and a walk to Jacob Hartman set the table for CJ Cantwell's bases-clearing two-bagger and Raymond Negron put the cherry on top with an RBI double to bring home Cantwell to seal the victory. Mitchell Stockwell went five innings, allowed just five hits, two runs and struck out five to get the win. Logan Bryan came on in relief in the sixth and allowed one hit, a run and struck our four to close out the game. Top-seeded DP will get set for the District Tournament at home next Wednesday as they're expected to take on fourth-seeded Lake Nona in the semifinal at 4:00 pm.
