Senior pitcher Raychel Trocki struck out ten batters, allowing just three hits and no earned runs, and went 2-3 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead Softball to a 16-1 thrashing of Lake Nona that clinched DP’s first District Championship since 2013 and second in program history. Scoreless through the first two innings, the Panthers put three on the board in the third and exploded for five more in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead. DP (21-5) banged out 12 hits but was also bolstered by six errors and ten walks on the Lake Nona side. With a 9-1 lead heading into the seventh, the Panthers added insult to injury, tacking on seven more runs for the 16-1 final. Kati Kelly went 3-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Tiare Kong (3-5, RBI, run) and Ailey Schyck (2-5, run) also added multi-hit performances. Dejia Benn took over sole possession of the season run-scoring record with four more last night to up her total to 45 this season. The victory gives the Panthers home field advantage in the Regional Quarterfinal next Wednesday where they get another shot at West Orange (15-12), who fell to Apopka, 2-0, in their District final last night. First pitch is set for 7:00 pm.
