5/8/2019 6:54:00 PM

Will Sullivan’s torrid season continued Wednesday afternoon as the senior first baseman tied the school’s single season record for home runs and doubles as Baseball battered visiting Lake Nona, 10-0, in the District Semifinal. Junior outfielder Brandon Fields belted two home runs, including a walk-off solo shot in the sixth, and senior righthander Logan Bryan was untouchable on the hill, allowing just one hit over six innings, while striking out five.  DP (19-6), winners of five straight and 11 of their last 13 games, got busy early with four runs in the first inning. After consecutive walks to CJ Cantwell and Raymond Negron to open the inning, Will Sullivan ripped a shot down the right field line for a two-run double, his 11th of the season which tied the school record set initially by Kevin Chabot in 1992 and tied by Nick Conti (2015) and Hamzah Nobles (2018). Brandon Fields then stepped in and rocketed a two-run home run well over the fence in left field to double the lead to 4-0. In the second, DP added another run when Jacob Hartman walked, went to third on a single by CJ Cantwell, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Raymond Negron. The 5-0 lead stood into the home fifth when DP plated three more, highlighted by RBI singles by Carlos Lopez, Jacob Hartman and CJ Cantwell. In the sixth, Will Sullivan delivered his record-tying 11th home run of the year, a laser over the 377 ft sign in left-center field, to tie Paul Penitani’s mark set back in 2000. With  a 9-0 lead, Brandon Fields roped a 3-0 pitch over the left field fence for his second home run of the game, a walk-off shot, for the 10-0 victory. DP banged out 11 hits over six innings, with multi-hit games from Cantwell (2-3, RBI, run), Sullivan (3-4, 3 RBIs, two runs), Fields (2-3, three RBIs, two runs) and Lopez (2-3, RBI, run). Logan Bryan picked up the victory over Lake Nona again, allowing no runs and just two hits over 13 innings in both victories over the Lions this season. DP will host Boone, who defeated Cypress Creek, 1-0, in the other semifinal, in the District Championship game at home Friday at 4:00 pm.
