Sophomore Ian Supra (2012)

Supra, Sellers power Men's Water Polo
2/27/2013 12:31:00 AM

Junior Ian Supra scored eight goals, seven in the first quarter alone, and freshman Parker Sellers followed suit with seven goals of his own as Men's Water Polo rocked Timber Creek, 24-7. Supra was a one-man wrecking crew early on with his first three goals coming off steals. Just 54 seconds into the game, Supra skipped a shot into the left corner for the first score and then fed senior captain Reed Davis a perfect centering pass for a one-timer that doubled the lead just over a minute later. After another Supra steal and score, Davis came through again at 3:34 with a spectacular move in front of the net and dumped it in for a 4-0 DP lead. Just 13 seconds later, Supra deflected a pass, took it the length of the pool and skipped it into the right corner to make it 5-0 and at the 1:51 mark, it was Reed Davis again, this time rising up out of the water and skipping it into the back of the net for his third goal of the night. Ian Supra kept the attack going with four more goals in a span of 84 seconds, the last a skip shot from 15 meters out into the right corner at the buzzer for a 10-0 lead. In the second quarter, Parker Sellers came alive with nearly identical goals, each a laser into the upper left 90 two minutes apart, for a 12-0 lead and DP exemplified perfect passing on their next score. With 2:41 left in the half, Sellers hit Reed Davis at the point who then found Ian Supra on the left corner. Supra, with a seemingly impossible angle falling away to his left, fired a perfect strike into the upper right corner of the cage for his eighth goal and a 13-0 lead. Senior Barrett Brinker stepped up for a penalty shot and delivered for the first of his three goals as the Panthers took an insurmountable 14-0 lead into halftime. In the third quarter, more of the same. Brinker's skip shot rattled the post and bounced in at 5:26 and Sellers hit his hat trick just 25 seconds later with a cross cage shot into the right corner. Freshman Corbin Chamberlain notched his first career goal into the top left 90 for a 16-0 lead and Nate Hamner skipped a shot into the far right corner with 3:22 left. Sophomore Anshul Devnani continued the assault with a backhander through the heart of the cage before Parker Sellers hit for two scores in 16 seconds for a 21-0 lead. Timber Creek would get on the board with 20 seconds left in the third quarter but Barrett Brinker responded merely ten seconds later as DP took a 22-1 lead into the final quarter. Timber Creek would get some back, scoring five late goals but Parker Sellers put the finishing touches on a career night with two late scores for the 24-7 final. Sellers also added a team-high four steals while Supra (3), Davis (3) and Ian Perkins (2) were defensive standouts as well. Goalkeeper Nick Lachinski had a tremendous night with ten saves and a team-high seven assists. Up next for the Panthers is Oviedo tonight and the Wildcat Invitational Friday and Saturday.
