Tanner Wright: still the best
3/15/2013 12:28:00 AM

If you don't understand the impact a coach can have on a player, regardless of the age or level of play, then you need to read the amazing tribute spoken about Men's Volleyball head coach April Ball by former DP Volleyball great Tanner Wright. Tanner graduated in 2007 after leading our team to the 2007 State Championship game, attended Quincy University in Illinois on a volleyball scholarship, and is now in medical school at the University of South Florida. Believe it or not, in his "spare time" he plays professionally for Team Florida Wave on the indoor pro volleyball circuit. In his player profile interview, he had this to say about coach April Ball:

"Throughout my junior volleyball years I had many role models, great coaches, and supportive family and friends that catalyzed my love of the game. The one person who had the greatest individual impact on my volleyball career was my high school coach at Dr. Phillips High School, April Ball. Coach Ball is the most talented person I know; she isn’t just one of the best teachers of the game, but also of education, life, and developing student-athletes who are ready for the next step of their life. To her I owe any success I have had in volleyball and in my personal development as a student."

Tanner Wright was one of the most respectful and successful  young men we've ever had in any sport and rightfully received the 2007 Bob Noyes Sportsmanship Award for his outstanding representation of Dr. Phillips High School and all that is good in sports. Clearly, he continues to set the example for others to follow. Read the complete interview here: http://www.floridavolleyball.org/team-florida-wave-indoor-pro-teams.html
