DP Men's Basketball improved to 4-0 on the season with a 67-59 victory over Deltona in the Metro vs. Florida Challenge at Wekiva High School. The Panthers opened up the game on a tear, outgunning the Wolves, 21-6, in the first quarter and built as much as a 24-point lead midway through the third quarter before withstanding a furious rally to seal the victory.

Jonathan Laurent opened up the game scoring seven of the team's first ten points and Elijah Jordan drained the first of his three from downtown as the Panthers jumped out to a 15-2 lead at the 2:04 mark of the first quarter. David Stephen and Jordan again followed with a pair of threes to close out the opening period with a 15-point advantage.  In the second quarter,   Chaundee Brown took a quick in-bound pass, dropped it in the hole and picked up the foul to make it 24-10 and then followed up with a beautiful ally-oop pass to Jonathan Laurent who hammered it home for the first of his two monster dunks. Freshman Calvin Ashley saw his first action since coming over from Football and got right in on the fun with a turnaround bucket to extend the lead to 28-10 with 3:44 to go in the half. Chaundee Brown would bury a three from the top of the arc as the Panthers went into the locker room up 38-24.

In the third quarter, Laurent's layup of a perfectly executed pick and roll and a subsequent layup underneath for a three-point play pushed the DP lead to 45-26. Elijah Jordan followed suit with another trey and a breakaway basket by Chaundee Brown capped a 12-2 run for a 50-26 lead with just under five minutes left in the period. From there, however, the Panthers cooled off, allowing Deltona to climb back into the race with a 15-4 run to close the deficit to 54-41 after three quarters. Back to back baskets by David Stephen and Wilkins Desir to open the fourth gave DP some additional breathing room, as did another three by Chaundee Brown from the deep left corner with four minutes left. Deltona closed the game with another 15-4 run but it wasn't enough as DP stays undefeated heading into the final game of the break. Jonathan Laurent finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds, his fourth consecutive double-double. Chaundee Brown picked up 16 points and five rebounds, Elijah Jordan tallied 12 points and four assists, David Stephen had ten points and eight assists and Wilkins Desir led the Panthers with five steals to go with four points.  DP will take on Osceola Saturday night at 7:00 pm at Wekiva.
