Men's Basketball held ten point leads twice against visiting Freedom but couldn't put the Patriots away until David Stephen sank a pair of free throws with 20 seconds left for a thrilling 71-68 victory. Stephen came off the bench and finished with a double-double, knocking down 15 points and dishing out ten assists while freshman teammate Chaundee Brown picked up a double-double as well with a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds along with four steals. Junior Jonathan Laurent, playing against his former school, struggled early to get into an offensive rhythm but heated up midway through the fourth. With DP (12-3) clinging to a six-point lead, Laurent ripped down a rebound, spun in the lane and powered up for a monster two-handed dunk with 4:20 remaining for a 59-51 lead. Laurent closed with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Wilkins Desir hit several clutch shots in the second half to finish with seven points and six rebounds while senior guard Ira Warren got the start tonight and ended with eight points and three rebounds. DP now sits atop the District standings and will take on powerhouse Orlando Christian Prep tomorrow at 5:05 pm, televised live by Brighthouse Sports Network channel 47 and HD 1147.

Men's JV Basketball picked up their second victory of the season with a 79-60 rout of Freedom. Carl Cooper paced the Panthers (2-4) with 18 points, Richie Diedrich added 13 and Briand Dorgil posted 11. Robert Thomas was quite the philanthropist with a team-high 12 assists. JV will travel to Lake Wales Monday. Freshmen Basketball ran their record to 3-2 with 52-39 victory over Freedom. Freddy Reeves scored a team-high 11 points, including a pair of late threes and a steal / layup in the fourth quarter to put the game away. They'll host Boone next Thursday in the opening game of a tripleheader.
