4th quarter surge buries Boone
1/13/2014 11:45:00 PM

Katrina Reeves' short jumper and long three pointer broke a 36-36 tie and sparked a decisive 12-0 fourth quarter run as Women's Basketball pulled away from Boone, 61-44. DP (14-7) found themselves down 15-13 after the first quarter but three-pointer by Jade Cheek with 2:25 left in the first half sent the Panthers into the locker room with a 29-24 lead. Boone clawed their way back to tie the game after three quarters in the books but Reeves took over in the fourth. The senior buried three of her six from downtown in the fourth quarter alone and finished with a game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds. Up 41-36 early in the final period, Ionna McKenzie wrestled a rebound away and powered back up for a layup and Katrina  Reeves followed with another long three to push the lead to ten, 46-36. Reeves had the hot hand as she drove in for a layup and knocked down another three for a 58-41 lead with 1:02 left in the game. Jade Cheek (18 points) polished the victory off with a three pointer with 28 seconds left as DP won going away. Ionna McKenzie tallied 15 points and nine rebounds while freshman Tiffany Tolbert had a team-high six assists. The Panthers will host another tough battle Friday night against Winter Park.
