Katrina Reeves (32) fires from downtown in DP's victory over West Orange (2013)

Women's Basketball survives Apopka
1/22/2014 8:31:00 AM

Women’s Basketball traveled up to Apopka last night to face a very strong Blue Darter squad and though they led by ten after the first quarter, DP needed every point at the end. In the first half, Katrina Reeves had the hot hand as she drained a trio of threes as the Panthers led 23-13 but Apopka sank six threes of their own to stay within reach at the half. In the third quarter, DP couldn’t buy a bucket and Apopka came back to tie three times but could never take the lead. With the score tied at 58-58 and just over two minutes remaining, Reeves sank a pair of free throws and Jade Cheek followed up with a free throw as well with just three seconds left to clinch the victory. Katrina Reeves led the way for DP with 30 points (including four threes) and 12 rebounds, Jade Cheek closed with nine points, Jah-Nay Anderson had a strong night with eight points off the bench and Ionna McKenzie finished with ten rebounds. The Panthers improved to 16-7 on the year and will host Bishop Moore tonight for Senior Night.
