Staton delivers DP past Boone
3/7/2014 1:02:00 AM

Men's Water Polo wasted very little time in asserting themselves against visiting Boone, scoring five goals within the first three minutes and connecting on 17 of their first 18 shots en route to a 21-5 demolition of the Braves. Junior Evan Staton had arguably the best all-around performance of his career, recording eight goals, eight assists and four steals in just over 17 minutes of work. In fact, Staton contributed to 16 of DP's first 18 goals as they went into the half up 18-1. Sophomore Corbin Chamberlain was dominant on both ends of the pool as well, picking up season-highs in three categories: four goals, three assists and six steals. Senior Eduardo Macias came off the bench to score four goals and picked up a steal while junior Anshul Devnani recorded three goals, three steals and an assist. Rounding out the stat sheet for DP (5-0) were freshman Jake Meisenheimer (goal, two assists), freshman Tyler Haugh (goal), sophomore Parker Sellers (three assists), senior Samer Diab (two steals), sophomore Andrew Sweet (assist), freshman Andrew Tobiasen (steal) and freshman Alex Afanasiev (steal). Goaltender Nik Lachinski turned aside three shots in the first half before Guillermo Mercon closed out the remaining two quarters with seven saves and a steal. DP will take on Suncoast, Miami Ransom Everglades and St. Thomas Aquinas tomorrow at the Wildcat Invitational.
