DP's 4 x 400m relay team of Emare Hogan, Jamari Smith, Javon Thomas and Edwin D'Haiti wins the gold at the 2014 Lake Brantley Classic

Men's Track wins Lake Brantley Classic

Men's Track and Field won gold medals in eight events and pulled away from the rest of the field in capturing the team championship at the 12-team Lake Brantley Classic, their fourth consecutive meet title. Sophomore Alvin Bryant walked away with four golds, including two in relay, while freshman Emare Hogan earned three golds, two via relay as well. DP captured titles in all three relay events starting with the 4 x 800m  won by Ronnell Mitchell, Jean D'Haiti, Emare Hogan and Chris Bradhsaw in 8:21.97. In the 4 x 100m, it was Marvin Marshall, Deionte Gaines, Roderick Proctor and Alvin Bryant taking the top spot in 42.05 while the day's final event, the 4 x 400m, saw Emare Hogan, Jamari Smith, Javon Thomas and Edwin D'Haiti win in 3:23.53. Starting with the 200m, Alvin Bryant took the gold in 21.92 with Deionte Gaines placing seventh at an even 23.00. Bryant also earned the individual gold in the 400m, finishing in 50.22 while Jamari Smith placed fourth at 51.13. The 800m saw Emare Hogan torch the field in a gold medal time of 1:59.54 with sophomore Jean D'Haiti earning the bronze in 2:03.78. Javon Thomas took top honors in the 300m hurdles with a season-best time of 39.15 and Edwin D'Haiti won the bronze, finishing in 40.29. D'Haiti earned his own individual gold in the 110m hurdles (14.97) with Thomas right behind in 15.43 for the silver. Adam Lawrence took home the silver medal in the 3200m (10:25.02) while Carl Schwartz set a personal record in 11:06.81, good for eighth place. In the pole vault, senior Marvin Marshall cleared 9-6 to place third and Willmane Toussaint was right there in fourth at 9-0 even. In the triple jump it was Roderick Proctor earning bronze with a leap of 43-9 and an eighth place finish in the long jump at 19-7. The 100m saw DP take two spots in the top eight as Deionte Gaines was fourth in 11.24 and Marvin Marshall sixth in 11.36. Nigel Alexander placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 119-10. Justin Tucker, in his first career competition, cleared 5-10 to take eighth in the high jump while senior Frantz Charlestin was eighth in the 1600m in 4:49.63. The Panthers will now prepare for the Metro Conference Championship beginning with the 9th / 10th grade meet Saturday at Showalter Field.
