Freshman Maddie Magrino (4) takes a shot on goal vs. Ransom (2014)

Women's Water Polo falls to Lake Nona
3/13/2014 11:32:00 PM

In a matchup of the area's highest ranked programs, top-ranked Lake Nona showed they deserve the billing as they handled Women's Water Polo, 12-3, at Lake Highland Prep. In the first quarter with the Panthers down 2-0, Allie Magrino took a pass from Maddie Magrino and dropped it over the goalie's head to halve the deficit at 2-1. In the second quarter, Emily Kliewer battled in front of the goal and knocked one in off another assist from Maddie Magrino to knot the game at 2-2 with 5:52 left in the half. Lake Nona went on a 3-0 run to pull ahead, 5-2, before Allie Magrino took a pass from Rikki Price, was dunked underwater and came up to punch it into the back of the net to cut the margin to 5-3 at the 2:01 mark. Unfortunately, that was all the Panthers would do offensively the rest of the way as the Lions outscored DP, 7-0, to win going away. Goaltender Jessica Robinson picked up 16 saves and four steals. Statistically for DP, Allie Magrino scored twice with a steal, Emily Kliewer added a goal and two steals with Rikki Price (assist, three steals), Maddie Magrino (two assists, steal), Julia James (steal) and Jillian Goulden (steal) rounding out the numbers. DP (9-2) will take on Wekiva at home Saturday morning.
