Baseball pounds Freedom for 5th straight
3/14/2014 10:42:00 PM

Griff Anderson pitched four scoreless innings, allowed one hit and struck out three as Baseball blasted Freedom, 9-1, for their fifth consecutive victory. DP (6-4) wasted no time jumping all over the visiting Patriots with five runs over the first two innings. In the first, Chase Cheek laced a single to right, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on another two pitches later for a 1-0 lead. Yasin Chentouf, who reached on an error, scored on Matt Sullivan's groundout to double the DP lead. In the second, Tyler McCoskey ripped a 2-0 pitch into right field, Chase Cheek reached on an error and Yasin Chentouf drove in both with a single to left to make it 4-0. With two outs, Nic Strasser dropped a perfect bunt single down the third base side, stole second and advanced to third on an error. In the true definition of a manufactured run, Matt Sullivan then stepped in and drove a single to center to score Strasser as the lead swelled to 5-0. Two innings later, DP broke out the lumber. With one out, Yasin Chentouf walked, Nic Strasser was hit by a pitch and both pulled off a a double steal, which allowed Chentouf to score on a throwing error for a 6-0 lead. Nolan Lang walked to put runners at the corners and in stepped Hakim Nobles. After suffering through a recent slump, Nobles busted out of it in fine fashion, slamming an 0-2 pitch over the center field wall for a three-run home run to make it 9-0. On the mound, Chentouf relieved Anderson in the fifth and combined with Dallas Nelson and Daniel Probst for four strikeouts over the final three innings. DP has put up major numbers over the course of the last five games, outscoring their opposition, 46-4. They'll get a stern test tomorrow afternoon as Lovett, Georgia comes calling at 1:00 pm.
