Quick start powers Softball over Cypress
3/14/2014 11:17:00 PM

Softball exploded for ten runs in the first inning and added five more before closing out with a four-inning, 15-0 victory over visiting Cypress Creek. DP (8-7) jumped all over the Bears out the gate, loading the bases on a walk to Caitlyn Jones, a single to left by Donna Ryan and walk to Marisa Lagos. With one out, Sarah Kollas lined a 1-1 pitch into center field, driving in both Jones and Ryan for a quick 2-0 lead. Allison Schwarz battled through a full count and drew a walk, loading the bases again. Rebekah Boggs stepped in and took advantage of the opportunity, belting an 0-2 pitch into left field, driving in Lagos and Kollas, doubling the lead to 4-0. With runners at the corners, Nina Underwood kept the rally alive with an infield single to load the bases. In stepped Avery Binnix who worked the count full before drawing an RBI walk that brought home Schwarz to tack another run on the board. Consecutive RBI singles by Caitlyn Jones and Donna Ryan brought home Boggs, Underwood and Binnix to make it 8-0 before Marisa Lagos' base hit to left scored courtesy runner Megan Maladecki and Donna Ryan.

With a commanding 10-0 lead, DP was still hungry. With one out in the third, Caitlyn Jones grounded one into left field for a single and scored on Kaley Eastwood's RBI single to left. Up 11-0, the Panthers closed out the game with four runs in the fourth. Rebekah Boggs reached base on an error with one down, went to second on Rebecca Snyder's single to center and scored on a groundout by Avery Binnix. With two out and Snyder on third, Caitlyn Jones (3-3, 2 RBI, 3 runs) drilled a grounder through the left side to score Snyder, Donna Ryan (3-4, 3 RBI, 3 runs) tripled home Jones and Marisa Lagos (2-2, 3 RBI, run) knocked an 0-2 pitch into right field to bring Ryan home with the game-closing run. Caitlyn Jones may have only thrown four innings but she was nearly perfect, allowing just one hit while striking out seven. DP will travel to Freedom Monday before their rematch with Olympia the following day.
