Ryan paces Softball past Olympia
3/19/2014 7:27:00 AM

Back at DP, Softball was in deep with their own battle against Olympia and after jumping out to a four-run lead, DP broke a 4-4 tie in the fifth inning to knock off the visiting Titans, 5-4.  The Panthers (9-7), winners of five straight, jumped all over Olympia in the second inning. With one down, Allison Schwarz walked on four pitches, Rebekah Boggs singled to center and Avery Binnix was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Caitlyn Jones stepped in and hit a shot to shortstop that was bobbled, scoring Schwarz, to give DP a 1-0 lead. With the sacks still loaded, Donna Ryan laced a 1-2 pitch into left field for a bases-clearing double to give DP a 4-0 lead but it didn't last very long. Olympia answered in the top of the third with three runs and tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the fifth inning. With one out in the bottom of the fifth, however, Donna Ryan drove a grounder through the hole into left field, went to second on an infield hit by Marisa Lagos and advanced to third on a passed ball. Senior Kaley Eastwood then ripped a first-pitch single to center to bring home Ryan with the eventual game-winning run. Ryan finished 2-3 with three RBIs and a run scored and Marisa Lagos went 2-3. Ryan came on in relief of Caitlyn Jones in the fifth inning  and allowed no runs, two hits and struck out three to pick up the victory. The Panthers will now take on Wekiva tonight at 5:00 pm.
