Yasin Chentouf wins the 2014 Iron Panther Award

Baseball blanks Olympia
3/19/2014 7:28:00 AM

Kyle Marman pitched six and a third innings, allowed no runs and scattered four hits while striking out five as Baseball blanked host Olympia, 3-0, for their seventh straight victory. DP (8-4) only managed five hits of their own but they certainly made them count. In the first inning,  Yasin Chentouf drew a one-out walk, stole second and scored on Matt Sullivan's line drive single to left. Up 1-0, the Panthers doubled their lead in the third when Yasin Chentouf drove a 2-0 pitch over the centerfield fence to make it 2-0 and DP held serve until the seventh. Ruben Saldana led off the inning with a hard shot to second for a base hit and beat the throw to second on Tyler McCoskey's sacrifice bunt. That opened the door for Josh Jimenez, who doubled to right field, scoring Saldana with the final run. In the Olympia half of the seventh, Marman gave way to Andrew Vaccacio with one out. After plunking the first batter, Vaccacio settled down and struck out the next two to pick up the save. DP will now host Apopka this afternoon at 4:30.
