Polansky, Moore shut down Edgewater
3/21/2014 1:15:00 PM

Senior righthander Adam Polansky went five strong innings, allowed just two runs on three hits and struck out four before yielding to sophomore Chris Moore who slammed the door the final two innings in Baseball's 6-2 victory over host Edgewater. Moore came on in the sixth, allowed just two hits and struck out two, including a called strike three for the game's final out. After the Panthers came away with nothing after loading the bases in the first, they plated three in the second. Junior Tyler McCoskey smacked a leadoff double down the right field line, went to third on a sacrifice fly by Josh Jimenez and scored on a sharp single to center by Ruben Saldana. After sophomore Chase Cheek followed with a single through the hole into right field to put runners at the corners, Saldana scored on a passed ball and Yasin Chentouf singled home Cheek for a 3-0 lead. Moving on to the fourth inning, Chase Cheek doubled and scored on a double into the gap by junior catcher Matt Sullivan to make it 4-0. Edgewater would get a pair of runs back in the home half of the fourth but the Panthers, who have now won nine straight games, held serve until the top of the seventh. Senior Nolan Lang led off with an infield single, Hakim Nobles was hit by a pitch and both runners advanced a base on a balk. With Josh Jimenez at the plate and one out, Nolan Lang stole home and Jimenez knocked in Nobles with a line drive base hit to right for the final 6-2 margin. Cheek finished 2-4 with two runs scored, Lang reached base in three of four at bats with a run scored and as a team, DP banged out ten hits. The Panthers improve to 10-4 on the season and will host Citrus HS in the Central Florida Spring Break Slam Monday at 1:00 pm.

JV Baseball racked up nine hits and held visiting Ocoee to just two in an 11-1 thrashing of the Knights. Clayton Barefoot led the offensive assault going 2 for 3 with a double, drove in a team-high four runs and scored a run of his own. Kendall Williams went 2 for 3 with a double and scored twice and Bailey Kossoff went 1 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. JJ Rogers dominated on the hill, striking out nine in just four innings of work to pick up the win while Clayton Barefoot pitched a perfect fifth inning to close out the rout. DP (5-8-3) will host Ocoee again April 1st.
