Sullivan delivers again
3/25/2014 12:01:00 PM

Matt Sullivan showed last week how to get it done in the clutch and yesterday vs. Citrus, Sullivan gave a refresher course. The junior catcher smacked a 1-2 pitch right back through the box into centerfield to score Yasin Chentouf with the game-winning run in the 10th inning to cap a 4-3 comeback victory. DP (11-4) trailed 3-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning before launching their assualt. Josh Jimenez led off with a single to right, Ruben Saldana laced a single to left and Chase Cheek dropped down a bunt single to load the bases with nobody out. A sacrifice fly by Yasin Chentouf scored Jimenez and an errant throw on the play brought home Saldana with Cheek advancing to third. With one out and the tying run at third, Nic Strasser's sacrifice fly scored Cheek and DP was back in business, tied at 3-3. Fast forward to the bo the bottom of the 10th where Chentouf's bunt single with one out put the winning run at first. A balk sent him to second which then forced Citrus to walk Nic Strasser intentionally to set up a force out situation. On a 1-1 pitch, Chentouf and Strasser pulled a double steal to give DP runners at second and third. After fouling off two pitches, Matt Sullivan delivered the game-winning hit for the seocnd time in a week. DP has now won ten consecutive games, their longest win streak since 1999 (12).  The Panthers banged out 11 hits, led by Sullivan and Cheek, who both finished 3 for 5. Saldana went 2 for 4 with a run scored. Griff Anderson got the call on the hill and pitched well, allowing three runs over four innings while striking out three before giving way to Ryan Evans, who tossed three scoreless innings and fanned four. Andrew Vaaccacio pitched a scoreless eighth and Chris Moore picked up the victory in relief with two scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out one. DP will take on Spruce Creek today at 4:00 pm.
