4/2/2014 12:27:00 AM

From Apopka we head a few miles south to Ocoee High School as Varsity Baseball put on another pitching exhibition in a 4-0 shutout of the host Knights. Kyle Marman got the call on the hill and had one of his best outing of the season, firing five innings of one-hit ball while striking out six for his fourth victory in his last five starts. DP put a run on the board in the top of the third when sophomore Chase Cheek belted a 2-1 pitch into the gap for a one-out triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hakim Nobles. Later in the sixth inning, Nic Strasser led off with a walk and scored on Matt Sullivan's double to right field. With nobody out, Nolan Lang stepped in and drilled a 3-2 pitch into right field for an RBI single, scoring Sullivan for a 3-0 lead. After Yasin Chentouf reached on an infield single, Cormac Holbrook rapped a 1-2 pitch into right field for a single to score Chentouf for the final tally. Ryan Evans and Yasin Chentouf each pitched a scoreless inning in relief as DP upped their Metro West record to 5-1, which includes a forfeit victory over Jones High School in a game that was scheduled for this afternoon. DP (14-6) will head up to DeLand tomorrow night.

Staying with Varsity Baseball, congratulations to senior pitcher Dallas Nelson on his commitment to play ball for Webber International University and sophomore Chase Cheek, who just verbally committed to play for the Duke Blue Devils!  Nelson will sign at our final National Signing Day ceremony, Wednesday April 16th.

JV Baseball upped their record to 6-8-3 with a thrilling 3-2 victory over visiting Ocoee. Down 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Kendall Williams drew a leadoff walk, stole second and third and scored the tying run on a throwing error by the pitcher. With nobody out and  Graham Gardner at second base, Theo Remsey smacked a 2-2 pitch into left field to score Gardner with the game-winning run. DP held an early 1-0 lead  in the third when Bailey Kossoff singled, advanced to second on an error, stole third and scored on another error. Gardner picked up the victory in relief, allowing one run on one hit while striking out three. Ryan Goonen (two innings, three strikeouts), JJ Rogers (two innings, three strikeouts) and Sammy Fonville (two innings, run) had solid outings on the mound as well. DP will head to Ocoee this afternoon for a rematch.
