Flag Football falls to Oak Ridge
4/4/2014 12:56:00 AM

Over to Oak Ridge High School we move as Flag Football looked to keep their undefeated streak alive against the host Pioneers but it wasn't in the cards. DP, who had never lost to Oak Ridge in 16 games over ten years, simply couldn't capitalize on scoring opportunities in a 13-9 loss. Trailing 13-0 heading into the fourth quarter, freshman quarterback Kaylee Messina found Jade Cheek for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 13-7. After the Panther defense forced a safety to slice the margin to 13-9, the Panthers (3-1) had one final chance but a Hail Mary pass into the endzone was batted away. Messina completed a school record 28 passes, upending Tara Santiago's previous record of 25 set back in 2006. 18 of her completions went to senior Malia Harrison, who obliterated Shya Garrett's previous record of ten catches back in 2012. The Panthers have no time to lament as they host Deerfield Beach tonight.
