Women's Water Polo edges Olympia
2/7/2015 7:08:00 PM

Up at the Winter Park pool, Women's Water Polo finished their preseason schedule at 3-0-1 with a 3-2 victory over Olympia and a 1-1 draw with Lake Nona in a half-game against each. In the opener against Lake Nona, DP found themselves down 1-0 in the second half before Emily Kliewer took a pass from Jacqueline James and stuffed it home for the equalizing goal. Goalkeeper Jessica Robinson was sensational with six saves and five steals. In the nightcap against Olympia, the Panthers found themselves down a goal at the 5:17 mark but Jacqueline James knotted the score up at 1-1 less than a minute later. James assisted in the go-ahead goal 64 seconds later when she tossed a perfect pass to Rikki Price, who fired a rocket into the back of the net for a 2-1 DP lead. Olympia would draw even on a penalty shot less than a minute later as we headed to the second half with a 2-2 tie. Both defenses were strong in the final seven minutes of play but with 4:11 left, Maddie Magrino buried the game-winning goal into the left corner off another assist from Jacqueline James to give the Panthers the victory. Once again, Jessica Robinson was superb in the cage with six saves and two steals. DP will open up regular season play at the Lake Brantley Tournament February 18th.
