Softball wraps up District play
3/16/2015 11:33:00 PM

Senior pitcher Caitlyn Jones struck out nine batters and allowed no earned runs through seven innings as Softball got past visiting Freedom, 5-2, for their third straight victory and fifth in six games. DP (10-6) put a run on the board in the first when Jones walked, stole second and scored on Megan Maladecki's RBI double. The Panthers put three more on the board in the third. Nini Underwood led off with a triple into the right field gap and scored on an RBI base hit by Diggy Rodriguez. After Rodriguez stole second, Allison Schwarz ripped a base hit back through the box to score Rodriguez to give DP a 3-1 lead. With two outs and Schwarz in scoring position, Marisa Lagos roped a single to center to bring in Schwarz to make it 4-1. DP would add another run for good measure in the fourth inning before Freedom loaded the bases in the sixth and seventh innings. Despite the threat, the Patriots came away with just one run for the final 5-2 margin. Top hitters for DP were Megan Maladecki (3-3, RBI), Allison Schwarz (2-3, RBI , 2 runs scored) and Diggy Rodriguez (1-1, RBI, run). DP has now clinched the number two seed in the District Tournament but first they'll focus on next week's Kissimmee Klassic, starting off with Riverview, Thursday 3/26 at 3:00 pm.
