Men's Track wins Seminole Invitational
3/29/2015 10:07:00 AM

Men's Track and Field won the Seminole Invitational by just two points (102-100) over host Seminole High School and it came down to the day's final event. In the 4 x 400m relay, Jamari Smith, Vernon Walker, Mike Macon and Chris Bradshaw captured the gold medal in 3:19.58, giving DP ten points and just enough to launch them past the Seminoles for the victory. While the relay's victory was the deciding factor, it would never have mattered had it not been for a sixth place finish one event earlier by freshman Bo Ivey. Coach Jorge Fleitas had calculated what was needed prior to the 3200m and without Seminole having a runner competing, Fleitas told Ivey he HAD to place at least sixth in order for DP to have a shot at the meet title. The freshman did exactly what was needed and the relay team followed suit to give DP their sixth title in seven meets this year. Senior Vernon Walker won an individual gold in the 110m hurdles (personal record 14.41) and the 300m hurdles (38.14), Alvin Bryant did the same in the 100m (personal record 10.64) and the 200m (personal record 21.37) and Jamari Smith won gold in the 400m (48.64) and placed fourth in the 200m. The 4 x 800m relay team of Chris BradshawJamari Smith, Mike Macon and Carl Schwartz took the silver medal in 8:25.35 while bronze medals were earned by Larry Pierre in the triple jump (44-4.5) and the high jump (6-2) and Mike Macon in the 400m (50.42). Chris Bradshaw also placed fourth in 800m and Larry Pierre was sixth in the 110m hurdles. DP will take several members of their team up to the Pepsi Relays in Gainesville next Friday and Saturday.
