Men's Basketball hammers Cypress Creek
12/8/2015 10:08:00 PM

After a disappointing showing Friday night against Wekiva, Men's Basketball came out firing on all cylinders and never let up in a thorough 79-50 battering of visiting Cypress Creek. The Panthers led 15-11 after the first quarter and doubled the lead to eight points at the half, 33-25, before blowing up in the second half where they outscored the Bears, 46-25. DP (3-1) came out of the locker room in the third and jumped all over Cypress Creek with an oppressive defense and a most efficient transition game. After Je'Quan Burton's breakaway layup at 5:35 of the quarter, Richard McKenzie threw down a two-handed dunk, Nick Smith picked up a steal and drove the length of the floor for a layup and followed up with a power move in the lane for a 44-31 lead. A short jumper in the lane by Hnric Murray, a long three by McKenzie and a pair of free throws by Enrique Sinigaglia capped an 18-4 run to close out the third period. In the fourth, another steal and layup by Nick Smith followed by a steal by McKenzie with an assist to Smith for another bucket highlighted a 12-0 run to put the Panthers in command, 68-43. Hnric Murray scored ten of the team's final 13 points and finished with 13 on the night. DP had 11 players contribute to the barrage as Richard McKenzie led with 15 points, Daniel Love added 11 points and three assists, Justin Tucker with nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds, Nick Smith had nine points, four rebounds and four steals, and Je'Quan Burton collected nine points, a team-high seven assists, five rebounds and five steals.

JV Basketball improved to 2-0 on the season with a 60-51 victory over Cypress Creek. Esdras Jean paced the Panthers with 22 points. Freshmen Basketball also moved to 2-0 with a 54-41 victory over the Bears as Rakeem Perry led the way with 21 points. All three teams will host Edgewater Thursday night in the House of Payne.
