Men's Basketball holds off West Orange

Justin Tucker led Men's Basketball with 16 points and 15 rebounds Daniel Love and Nick Smith scored 13 apiece as Men's Basketball defeated West Orange, 70-61, to improve to 14-2 on the season. DP jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opening quarter before Tucker slammed home a perfect pass from Je'Quan Burton as the Panthers pushed their lead to 13-2. In the second, DP built an 11-point lead, 17-6, on a pair of free throws by Nick Smith but West Orange (4-12) went on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to just two, 22-20. Burton gave the Panthers some breathing room at the 3:05 mark with a half-court steal and dunk through the lane before DP took a 26-23 lead into the half. In the third quarter, both teams traded punches for the first four minutes but DP went on a 16-2 run punctuated by a beautiful out-of-bounds save and pass by freshman Marcus Tillman to Nick Smith for a layup with 2:06 remaining. Justin Tucker followed with a three pointer from the right corner and Je'Quan Burton snatched a rebound and took it coast to coast for a layup that gave DP it's largest lead, 44-29. West Orange would chip away in the fourth quarter, shaving the deficit down to just four after a 9-0 run midway through but clutch free throws down the stretch by Braxton Clark, Daniel Love and Justin Tucker sealed the 70-61 victory. DP will take on Lake Highland Prep Saturday night at OCP.

In JV Basketball action, Caleb McMillan led DP with 16 points and Davarius Bargnare added 14 as the Panthers improved to 7-0 with a 68-58 victory over West Orange. Tarrie Reese and Esdras Jean chipped in ten points apiece. Freshmen Basketball also stayed undefeated (7-0) with a 59-47 victory over West Orange behind Devon Buckhanon's 22 point performance. Both teams will travel with the varsity squad to Oak Ridge Tuesday night.
