Men's Water Polo fends off Olympia
3/9/2016 1:08:00 AM

Last night at the YMCA Aquatic Center, Men's Water Polo outscored Olympia, 5-1, in the second half and pulled away for a 10-6 victory to improve to 10-2 on the season. DP freshman Max Meisenheimer scored two of his three goals in the first two minutes of the game while junior Jake Meisenheimer and senior Corbin Chamberlain put two in the back of the net for a 4-1 lead in the final minute of the first quarter. Olympia responded with three consecutive goals to tie the game at 4-4 in the second before freshman Dan Magrino knifed past his defender and punched a goal into the right corner for a 5-4 DP lead at 3:29. Less than a minute later Olympia evened the score at 5-5 heading into the break. In the third quarter, Max Meisenheimer drove his third goal into the corner and Jake Meisenheimer took an assist from Magrino and knocked his second goal home to push the lead to 7-5 at 3:42 of the third quarter. An Olympia goal pulled them within one but a beautiful goal by Jake Meisenheimer from Jack Campbell in the waning seconds of the third pushed the lead back to two, 8-6. In the fourth, Olympia did their best to pepper goaltender Tyler Haugh but the junior knocked away four of his ten saves before senior captain Jack Campbell put the game away for good with a rifle shot into the lower right 90 with 1:07 left. Senior Parker Sellers capped the night with a goal in the final three seconds as DP defeated the Titans for the tenth consecutive time dating back to 2010. Jake Meisenheimer finished with three goals, an assist and three steals while Max Meisenheimer (three goals), Corbin Chamberlain (goal, two steals), Dan Magrino (goal, two assists), Jack Campbell (goal, assist), Parker Sellers (goal, assist, steal), James Sweet (two assists, three steals) and Tyler Haugh (ten saves, two steals, assist) completed the stat lines. West Orange will come in tomorrow night as the team honors the legacy of Ian Supra beforehand.
