Volleyball tops Olympia for District title
10/20/2016 10:20:00 PM

For the 11th time in program history and first since 2011, Women's Volleyball crowned themselves District Champions with a solid four-set victory over the Olympia Titans. DP (18-7) rolled to consecutive set victories, 25-14, 25-15, to start the match but gave away the third game to Olympia, 15-25. The Panthers overcame a sluggish start in game four and found themselves down, 15-12, midway through but a 7-1 run pushed them over the top to a 19-16 lead. From there, both teams went back and forth but DP closed out the match on a 4-1 run for the 25-20 victory. Maredis Colon led the Panthers with 17 kills, Gregna Fuentes closed out with 36 assists and Fabiola Ribas tallied 24 digs. Regional Quarterfinal action will return to the House of Payne Tuesday night as DP will host District 6 runner-up Lithia Newsome (17-7) at 7:00 pm. Olympia (14-8) will travel to District 6 champion Sarasota Riverview (20-0). The winners of each match will meet Friday, 10/28, at 7:00 pm. Regional Tournament tickets are $7.00 each and will be sold at the door.
