DP"s Metro West Conference Champion 200 free relay team of Kayla Smith, Maddie Magrino, Caroline Grzeszczak and Roseleen Olivares (2016)

Women's Swimming had three individual event champions and captured the 200 freestyle relay title en route to a second place team finish at the District Championship Friday. Senior Maddie Magrino took home the 500 freestyle gold in 5:17.55, junior Roseleen Olivares won the gold in the 100 fly with a time of 1:00.08 and sophomore Kayla Smith earned the 100 backstroke title in 58.46. All three were joined by junior Caroline Grzeszczak in the 200 freestyle relay as the Panthers won the championship in 1:39.63. DP had top eight finishes in every event, including top three times in ten of the eleven. Silver medalists included the 200 medley relay team of Emma Chapman, Paola Hernandez, Julia James and Samantha Horency (1:59.13), Maddie Magrino in the 200 free (1:57.91), Roseleen Olivares in the 200 IM (2:14.08), Julia James in the 100 fly (1:03.82), Kayla Smith in the 100 free (52.91) and the 400 free relay team of Smith, Grzeszczak, Olivares and Magrino in 3:36.60. Paola Hernandez rounded out the podium finishers, earning the bronze in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.47). Other top eight finishers included Emma Chapman in the 100 backstroke (fifth) and 50 free (seventh), Caroline Grzeszczak in both the 200 free (sixth) and 100 free (sixth), Julia James in the 200 IM (sixth), Gunjan Devnani in the 500 free (sixth), Brittney Bonnin in the 100 fly (eighth) and Bailey Valdes in the 100 breast (eighth). The top two in each individual event have automatically qualified for next Saturday's Regional Championship, as does the 200 free relay team. All others will await the results of the other District meets to determine if they advance based on the fastest remaining times.
