Senior quarterback Marvin Washington (2016)

Football punishes Cypress Creek
10/28/2016 6:07:00 AM

Quarterback Marvin Washington threw for 214 yards and tied a school record with five touchdown passes to lead Dr. Phillips to a 63-3 victory over host Cypress Creek, DP's 36th consecutive District win which also secured the program's ninth consecutive undefeated District season.

DP (7-2) scored on all seven offensive drives and twice defensively as the running clock was instituted with seven minutes left in the second quarter. Washington hit Je'Quan Burton for 29 yards on DP's opening drive for the first score, Albert Gilreath's  interception set up   a six-yard touchdown pass from Emare Hogan to Michael FoxHenry Caldwell scooped up a fumble and returned it 24 yards for the third touchdown and Davarius Bargnare took a fourth down pass 20 yards for a score and as the Panthers built a 28-0 lead in just the first quarter. The second quarter was equally efficient as Emare Hogan hauled in his first touchdown catch of the night, a 29-yarder from Washington with 11:46 to go to make it 35-0 and Marcus Tillman put the defense in the scoring column again with a 55-yard fumble return for a touchdown as the lead climbed to 42-0. Both coaches agreed to a running clock after that score but it didn't stop the deluge. With 3:40 left in the half, Emare Hogan went to the back corner of the end zone for his second touchdown catch, this time 20 yards from Washington. In the third quarter DP had just one possession and took all of two plays to make it count as Washington went up top for Caleb Walls for 57 yards and in the fourth, Kenny Palmer closed out the barrage with a seven-yard touchdown run for the 63-3 final.

WIth two more returns for touchdowns, the Panthers tied the school record for return scores (9) set originally by the 2010 team. Marvin Washington's five touchdown passes tied the original record set by Nico Ranieri vs. Boone in 2008 and equaled by Nick Patti in 2011 vs. Freedom. DP will close out their regular season at Evans next Friday night at 7:00 pm before hosting the Regional Quarterfinal the following week.
