Douglas leads Women's Hoops past Freedom

Junior guard Shayla Douglas scored a career-high 21 points and senior Tiffany Tolbert added 15 more as Women’s Basketball pounded visiting Freedom, 65-34, to reel off their fourth straight victory. The Panthers (4-4) built a 7-0 lead to open the game and never looked back. Kyara McClendon scored all eight of her points in the first quarter as DP closed the opening period up 23-8. In the second, Natalya Thomas went off the glass for two to push the lead to 19 points, 30-11, with 5:03 to go and Tiffany Tolbert’s rebound and put-back matched the lead before DP went into the break up 38-21.  In the third, Shayla Douglas opened the DP scoring with a long three, Tiffany Tolbert drove in for a layup and the foul, Shayla Douglas went coast to coast for a laypup and Nikyya Smith added a bucket as the Panthers utilized a 10-0 run to extend their lead to 48-24.  In the fourth quarter, Douglas and Samijah Butler each drained long threes as the Panthers coasted to the 65-34 final. In JV action, Nisa Costa scored a game-high 18 points as DP rolled to a 51-11 victory to improve to 4-2 on the season. Varsity Basketball will take on Lake Mary Saturday at 1:00 pm at the Downtown Recreation Center while both teams will host Oak Ridge Tuesday night.
