Women's Wrestling had 11 place-winners, including five champions, at the 2017 Metro Conference Championship

Dr. Phillips Women's Wrestling is quickly becoming one of the most exciting teams on campus as they captured the program's first Metro Conference Championship Friday at East River. DP saw champions crowned in five weight classes and placed 11 wrestlers in the top four. Freshman Jessica Corredor pinned her way through three matches to win the title in the 97-pound weight class. At 128 pounds, sophomore Remy Vargas won her first two matches by pin, then took the semifinal match by 10-3 decision before a thrilling 11-9 victory in the championship match over Boone. Senior Valeria Herrera gave the Panthers their third title with a 7-0 decision over University in the 154-pound division. Sophomore Trinity Rios won her first championship at 162 pounds with a 2-1 nail biter over Evans and in the 197 pound class, sophomore Shedeline Ulysse pinned her opponents in the semifinal and championship matches to earn DP's fifth crown of the day. The Panthers also saw runner-up finishes by junior Remy Hellnger at 115 pounds, sophomore Jennifer Gabriel at 147 pounds (2-1 decision) and sophomore Shania Gowan at 184 pounds (2-1 decision). In the 122 pound class, sophomore Karoline Ortiz placed third with a 3-2 decision over Colonial while junior Alexa Phillips pinned her opponent from Boone to take third in the 108 pound division and freshman Jennifer Charles placed fourth at 134 pounds to complete the scoring. DP finished with 219 points, easily outpacing second place University by 73 points.
