Senior Alejandro Galarraga scored his first varsity goal on the night he and his fellow seniors were honored pregame but it would not have occurred without the assistance of senior teammate Steve Laguerre. In the first half, Laguerre drew a foul in the box that resulted in a penalty kick. Rather than take the kick himself, Laguerre, in what coach Joel Dobrowolski said was "honestly one of the most genuine acts of kindness and sportsmanship I have seen in a long time," offered the opportunity to Galarraga, who was the last of the six seniors not to score a goal this season. Galarraga buried the PK in the back of the net to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead over Liberty at the half. Just 30 seconds into the second half, junior Gabriel Gonzalez doubled the lead after taking a pass behind the defense from sophomore Raymond Negron-Valero and putting it into the cage for his first varsity goal as well. In the 60th minute, Gonzalez paid it forward, serving a corner kick to junior Jesus Pernia-Escorche for DP's final score of the night in the 3-1 victory. Congratulations to seniors Cesar Gonzalez, Matt McGuire, Sebi Mele, Mikey Danganan, Steve Laguerre and Alejandro Galarraga on their outstanding careers st DP! The Panthers improved to 8-6-4 on the season and will take on Evans in the District Tournament Tuesday night at West Orange.
JV Soccer saw Landon Georgi score two goals and solo goals added by Sam Ross, Stann Loui-Jeune, Isaac Sio, Bernardo Parades and Adam Chani in a solid 7-0 victory over Liberty to finish their season with a record of 6-4-4. Congratulations to the entire team and to coach Matt Ireland for a great season!
