Senior guard Nick Smith accounted for 20 of his team's 42 points as Men's Basketball came back to beat visiting Jones, 42-40. After taking a one-point lead after one quarter of play, DP (15-8) found themselves getting outworked on the boards and outhustled down the floor, allowing Jones to go on a 10-2 run to start the second. Down 23-15, Marcus Tillman gave the Panthers a boost with a long three at the buzzer to cut the margin to five at the half. A different team emerged from the locker room, however, as DP tightened up defensively and crashed the boards far more effectively. Daniel Love's putback at the 6:05 mark capped a 5-0 run to start the third quarter and a three from Nick Smith at the top of the key gave the Panthers their first lead, 28-25, since the first quarter. Smith scored ten of DP's 14 points in the third quarter, including the last seven for a 32-28 lead at the quarter break. With the game tied at 38-38, Je'Quan Burton's steal led to a thundering dunk by Esdras Jean for a 40-38 lead with 1:09 left. Daniel Love then picked up a steal on Jones' next trip down the floor and fed Nick Smith for a layup to move the lead to four, 42-38. After a bucket and a defensive stop, Jones had two opportunities to tie the game with under nine seconds left but their final shot clanged off the rim as time expired. Daniel Love finished with 11 points and Esdras Jean chipped in with seven. The Panthers will now host Winter Park for Senior Night Thursday at 7:30.
