After sending DP Men's Basketball home last year with a 25-point loss to end their season, fifth-ranked Sarasota Riverview got a little more than they may have expected in return this year as the Panthers avenged their loss with a 75-66 overtime victory in the Regional Quarterfinal. Senior Nick Smith scored 17 of his career-high 31 points in the fourth quarter and junior Daniel Love hit for nine of his 17 in the overtime period. Down by as many as eight in the third quarter, DP (19-9) surged back with an 8-0 run highlighted by a huge three from Nick Smith to take a 44-42 lead. With under a minute left in regulation and the Panthers up by five, 55-50, Riverview cut the lead to just one with 27 seconds left. Nick Smith sank a pair of free throws to push the lead to three, 57-54 and after another free throw by Smith made it 58-56, Riverview delivered the tying bucket with under five seconds left to send the game to overtime. From there, DP dominated, outgunning the host Rams, 17-10, to send DP back to the Regional Semifinals. Sophomore Devon Buckhanon contributed seven points and three rebounds, sophomore Marcus Tillman chipped in six points and five rebounds and junior Esdras Jean finished with a team-high ten rebounds and six points. DP will now face off against rival Oak Ridge for the third time this season on the road Tuesday night at 7:00 pm.
