 Darryl Monroe earns the Apex Wealth Management Player of the Game in DP's 62-6 victory over Evans
Football rocks Evans, 62-6
Demetrius Hart added another record to his collection with his tenth career 100-yard rushing game as DP Football pounded visiting Evans, 62-6, Thursday night. Hart rushed for 178 yards on just eight carries, gained 240 all-purpose yards and rushed for three touchdowns for the Panthers, who improved to 6-0 on the season with their sixth straight running clock victory. Quarterback Nick Patti completed 11 of 14 passes and three touchdowns to up his total to 15 on the season without an interception. Linebacker Darryl Monroe was named the Apex Wealth Management Player of the Game after a dominating defensive performance with over a dozen tackles.
DP was held scoreless on their first drive but scored on their next nine possessions. Dee Hart got the train rolling in the first quarter all on his own. After his 16-yard punt return gave the Panthers possession at the Evans 39, Hart rushed three times for 12, 10 and then 17 yards for the score for a 7-0 lead. DP's defense got in the action on Evans' ensuing possession. Facing second and four at their own 37, the Trojans ran right but safety Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix came in with a big hit and caused a fumble which was scooped up by Chris Curtis and returned 32 yards for a touchdown.
In the second quarter, DP kept rolling. After Dee Hart's 19-yard run put the ball at the Evans 45, senior Pat Fenlon hauled in a 45-yard touchdwon pass from Nick Patti for a 20-0 lead at the 11:45 mark. On their next possession, Evans was stuffed on fourth down by Laquentin Smith at their own 38 and that set up Nick Patti's 16 yard touchdown run on a quarterback keeper to make it 27-0 with 7:15 left in the half. Things continued to slide for Evans as Dee Hart returned a Trojan punt 24 yards and followed up with a 33-yard touchdown run for a 34-0 lead. DP's final drive of the half saw Eric Harrell rush for 20 yards, Chris Gallon pull in an 11-yard reception and culminated with Jake Janse's five-yard touchdown catch for a 41-0 lead at the break.
Third quarter action began much as it left off earlier. The Panthers marched 65 yards in 11 plays as Chris Gallon made a spectacular touchdown catch in the right corner of the endzone to push the lead to 48-0. Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix then interecepted an Evans pass on the ensuing drive to set the Panthers up at their own 36. One play later, Dee Hart broke into the secondary and raced 64 yards for the touchdown to make it 55-0 after three quarters.
DP's final score came in the fourth quarter with 2:42 remaining. Quarterback Joe Scott ran for 15 yards, completed passes two passes to Jake Janse and Eric Harrell gained 28 yards on four carries before offensive lineman Kenderson Obas powered his way in for a four-yard score for the 62-6 final. DP outgained Evans in total offense, 472-180, and averaged nearly ten yards per play. Roderick Ryles intercepted his team-leading fourth pass of the season and Shawn Moffitt was perfect on all eight extra point attempts to extend his streak to 77 consecutive PATs. Hart's 178-yard performance was his tenth career 100+ yard rushing game which broke the previous record of nine set by Al Gilreath (1989-1990) and Embry Peeples (2006-2007). His three touchdowns also tied his own school season record of 20 set last year. DP (6-0) has now outscored its opponents, 305-20. They will host Oak Ridge next Friday for Homecoming at 7:30.
