After a disappointing loss to Lake Brantley Friday night, Women's Water Polo bounced back with decisive victories Saturday to finish the Ian Supra Tournament at 3-1 and placed fourth among the ten competing teams. DP (14-4) squared off against Miami Ransom for the second time in a week and the Panthers rolled over the Raiders, 9-5. Leading 4-0 at the end of the first half, DP put another four on the board in the third quarter. Julia James and Maddie Magrino scored three goals apiece, Bailey Valdes tacked on two more and Sarah Demsky finished off the scoring with a solo goal. In Saturday's earlier game, the ladies dispatched Lake Nona easily, 16-5, with a ten-goal outburst in the first half. Julia James found the back of the net six times while Maddie Magrino (four goals, four assists, five steals) Sarah Demsky (three goals), Caroline Grzeszczak (two goals, two assists) and Bailey Valdes (goal, two steals) completed the barrage. Freshman goaltender Samantha Horency turned away 11 shots and collected four assists. Friday night's game against Lake Brantley never felt right, unfortunately, as the Panthers were stymied on offense and didn't have enough to hold off the Patriots in a 9-4 loss that knocked them out of championship contention. Julia James gave DP a pair of goals with Maddie Magrino and Emma Hallson going for a score each. In the tournament opener, the ladies cruised to a 10-2 victory over Suncoast after jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter. Maddie Magrino scored six goals and gathered up five steals, Julia James finished with four goals and three assists while Sam Horency (five saves, three steals) and Peyton Haines (two saves, steal) were rock solid in the cage. During the tournament, Maddie Magrino registered her 59th assist of the season, surpassing her own record of 56 set last year. DP will head to West Orange Tuesday night and will get a reprieve before returning to action at Oviedo and Hagerty Tuesday 3/21.
