For the ninth consecutive game and 12th time in 14 games, Women's Lacrosse put up at least 20 goals as they rolled past Lake Mary, 20-7, to finish the regular season a perfect 14-0. Senior Elyse Decker got the Panthers going early with the first two of her team-high eight goals coming in the opening minutes of the game. After Lake Mary tied the game at 2-2, Piper Johnson got in on the scoring with the first of her three goals coming at the 15 minute mark but Lake Mary hung in well, tying the game at 3-3. With nine minutes left in the first half, sophomore Zariah Durham's two-goal response put DP up 5-3 to kick start a 9-0 Panther run that included five goals from Elyse Decker. With 25 shots on goal and a 14-3 lead at the half, DP forced the running clock the rest of the way while securing the undefeated regular season. Zariah Durham finished with four goals, Justine Decker tallied three goals, five ground balls and 11 draw controls, and Piper Johnson added three goals and three assists. Solo goals were scored by Mary Sosebee and Yasmeen Garib while on the defensive front, you couldn't ask for better play from Kambria Barry, Mackenzie Allen and Makinley Gay. Hard not to be impressed with the statistics of this team, leading the state in average goals per game (20.1) and currently ranked second in Florida and 19th in the nation. But everyone knows there are no rings for regular season titles so the rewards are earned in the playoffs which start next week. Top-seeded DP will take on fourth-seeded First Academy Wednesday at 5:30 at Bishop Moore in the District Tournament semifinal.
