Senior quarterback Kaylee Messina fired two of her three touchdown passes to sophomore Shiquila Bryant as Flag Football blasted Jones, 43-6, to improve to 7-0 on the season. Similar to the last outing, DP's defense was a factor immediately. Sophomore Megan Lapeyrouse ended Jones' opening drive with an interception that set up a 15-yard touchdown pass from Messina to junior Aaliyah Govan and Messina then found sophomore Nisa Costa for a rare three-point conversion pass for a 9-0 lead. Junior Stephanie Oliveira sparked the defense again with the first of her two interceptions and it didn't take long for the offense to capitalize. Messina found Shiquila Bryant for a ten-yard score and the Panthers were in command, 15-0. Jones would respond with a long touchdown pass but the Panthers took a 15-6 lead into the half. The third quarter belonged to Dr. Phillips, though, as they scored three straight touchdowns, a five-yard run by Govan, a five-yard touchdown pass from Govan to Tiffany Tolbert, and a ten-yard touchdown run by Govan for a 36-6 lead at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth, Kaylee Messina connected with Shiquila Bryant again, this time from 15-yards out, for the 43-6 final. Rukayla Winters stood out defensively with four flag pulls. In the JV game, Lacey Bircceirri scored a touchdown and Candace Jones picked off a pass as the Panthers edged Jones, 8-7, to up their mark to 3-1-2. Varsity will host Miami Edison Friday while JV will travel with varsity to Harmony next Tuesday.
