Senior Chris Curtis was a defensive stalwart in DP's 52-3 playoff victory over Olympia to earn Apex Wealth Management's Player of the Game

Football coasts into second round
11/20/2010

Demetrius Hart rushed for 118 yards and scored three touchdowns, including a 93-yard reception from Nick Patti, to lead Dr. Phillips Football to a 52-3 victory over visiting Olympia.  Senior tight end Pat Fenlon caught two touchdown passes and Roderick Ryles returned an interception 39 yards for a score as the Panthers (11-0) dominated the Titans in every phase of the game.

In the first quarter, DP's defense came up big on Olympia's opening possession when Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix intercepted a pass at the Titan 32.  Dee Hart didn't waste any time capitalizing when he took the first handoff 32 yards for a touchdown to give the Panthers a 7-0 lead.  Two possessions later, still in the first quarter, Hart broke off a 17-yard run and Patti followed with a 14-yarder to set up a 15-yard touchdown strike to Pat Fenlon for a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Darryl Monroe pounced on an Olympia fumble to give DP possession at the Titan 23.  Shawn Moffitt boomed a 35-yard field goal at the 9:03 mark for a 17-0 lead and the Panthers put it on cruise control from there on out.  After Olympia answered with a field goal with just one minute left in the half, DP responded in dramatic fashion.  Facing first and 23 at their own seven yard line, Nick Patti scrambled out of the pocket and found Dee Hart wide open behind the secondary for a school record-tying 93-yard touchdown reception to take a 24-3 into the break.

Olympia opened up the third quarter with an onside kick but the Panthers recovered at their own 40.  After Dee Hart raced for a 30-yard gain, Patti found Chris Gallon for a 21-yard gain down to the one.  Patti's quarterback sneak pushed the lead to 31-3 but they were far from finished.  Defensive end Jonathan Smith broke through to block an Olympia field goal on their ensuing possession which gave DP the ball at their own 38.  Three plays later, Patti fired a bullet to Pat Fenlon across the middle of the field and Fenlon made two beautiful moves in the secondary for a 43-yard touchdown reception.  Up 38-3, the DP defense got in the action yet again.  Senior Roderick Ryles' sixth interception of the season came with 3:36 left in the third quarter and he took it to the house for a 39-yard score to make it 45-3.  Dee Hart closed out the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown run with 56 seconds left in the third quarter as the Panthers capped their eighth straight victory over the Titans.

DP will now move on to the Regional Semifinal Friday night at home vs. Oak Ridge.  The Pioneers (8-3) defeated Apopka to set up a rematch of the district battle won earlier this season by the Panthers, 56-28.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM.  Tickets will go on sale at the stadium box office at 4:00 PM Friday.
