Men's Volleyball defeats Bishop Moore for the 2017 District Championship

Men's Volleyball District Champions!
4/29/2017 10:36:00 AM

After getting swept out of their own gym by Bishop Moore on senior night two weeks ago, Men's Volleyball responded with the fury of a thousand suns Friday night and defeated the host Hornets in five games to claim their first District Championship in six years. DP (19-6) jumped out to a two game lead with a 29-27 victory in the first and followed up with a 25-20 win in game two. Not unexpectedly, Bishop Moore came back strong and rallied to tie the match, taking games three and four (19-25, 17-25). But game five belonged to DP. The Panthers scored the first four points, built the lead to 11-2 and then closed out the championship with a dominating 15-6 victory. Sam Barnett was a force on the net with 22 kills, collected 15 digs and blocked five shots. Blake Inlow finished with 39 assists with Damian Rivera good for 12 digs and three aces. Jordan Poventud also stood out defensively with five blocks. DP, ranked 20th in the state in the latest poll, will get a shot at knocking off the top-ranked Freedom Patriots (27-0) Tuesday night in the House of Payne at 7:00 pm. The winner of that match punches their ticket to the State Tournament in Naples beginning Friday.
