For the second year in a row and the seventh time in the last eight years, Flag Football crowned itself District Champions after a 19-0 victory over Timber Creek. DP (14-0), overcame a sluggish start offensively in a scoreless first half which saw the Panthers turn the ball over three times in Timber Creek territory, including a pair of interceptions in the end zone on fourth down attempts inside the five yard line.

The tide turned in the second half, however, as the DP defense created three scoring opportunities, all of which were capitalized on by the offense. With Timber Creek driving late in the third quarter, freshman Aunjani Miller stepped in front of a pass to give DP possession at the 37. Quarterback Kaylee Messina went right to work, completing a 16-yard pass to sophomore Shiquila Bryant and five yards to junior Samijah Butler. Facing third and goal from the eight, Messina found Tiffany Tolbert at the goal line and the senior cut to the corner into the end zone for a touchdown to give DP a 6-0 lead.

Timber Creek took over possession starting the fourth quarter and Aunjani Miller came up with another critical defensive play. On third and eight with nine minutes left to play, Miller broke through the block and batted a pass away to force a fourth down punt. DP took advantage again. On second and 12, Messina and Tolbert hooked up again for a 15-yard gain on second and 12 to give the Panthers first and goal at the Timber Creek 17. Messina then lofted a perfect pass into the back left corner of the end zone that sophomore Nisa Costa pulled in with one hand for another DP touchdown. Samijah Butler's extra point reception lifted DP to a 13-0 lead at the 4:49 mark. Tiffany Tolbert gave the offense another boost with an interception on Timber Creek's ensuing possession at the Wolves' 20 which set up a 20-yard touchdown pass from Messina to Tolbert for the 19-0 final. Messina completed 23 passes, six to Megan Lapeyrouse and five each to Tiffany Tolbert and Shiquila Bryant. Tolbert finished with two interceptions for the defense which registered its third consecutive shutout, fourth in five games and eighth of the season. The Panthers have now outscored their opposition 418-43. Dr. Phillips has now won District Championships in 11 of the last 14 years and advances to the Regional Semifinal at defending State Runner-Up Martin County next Friday at 7:00 pm.
