In a battle of the state's top Flag Football teams in Class 2A, second-ranked  Dr. Phillips came back to beat top-ranked Martin County, 7-6, to punch a ticket to Tuesday's Regional Championship. DP (15-0) surrendered a long touchdown pass on the second play of the game but shut down the defending state runners-up the rest of the way. Down 6-0 in the second quarter, the Panthers faced third and 15 at the Martin County 35  when junior Aaliyah Govan ran left with nowhere to go, reversed the field, and then took off 35 yards for the game-tying touchdown. Govan then gave DP a 7-6 lead with an extra point pass to sophomore Megan Lapeyrouse before the defense took over for good. Martin County drove deep into Panther territory on their ensuing possession but on third and goal, senior Tiffany Tolbert intercepted a pass to keep DP ahead into the halftime break. Both defenses clamped down in the second half but DP had to dig deep late in the fourth. With Martin County driving in for a potential game-winning touchdown, sophomore Nisa Costa broke up a fourth and goal pass with 1:41 left in regulation to close out the victory. DP will now host Fleming Island Tuesday night at 7:00 pm in the Spoone with the winner advancing to the State Final Four in Gainesville.
