2017 Men's Swimming and Diving placed second in the District Championship and and Women's Swimming placed third

Women's Swimming takes 3rd at District

Junior Kayla Smith captured District titles in the 100 fly and 100 back, in addition to a pair of relay golds, as Women's Swimming notched a third place team finish in the 2017 District Championship. Smith won the 100 fly in 57.80 and the 100 back in a season-low 59.01 and led off the championship 200 medley team with seniors Paola Hernandez, Roseleen Olivares and Caroline Grzeszczak (1:51.65). In the 200 free relay, Smith, Grzeszczak, sophomore Sam Horency and Olivares crushed the field with a championship time of 1:41.27. Caroline Grzeszczak earned a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200 free (1:59.87) and the 100 free (55.39) while Roseleen Olivares took home the runner-up spots in both the 100 fly (57.86) and 500 free (5:15.43). All five swimmers advanced automatically to the Regional Championship with top-two finishes. Sam Horency had a solid outing with an additional third place finish in the 50 free (26.05) and a sixth place finish in the 100 free. Paola Hernandez earned a third place finish in the 100 breast (1:11.62) and fifth place in the 500 free. Other top-16 scorers included junior Julia Batzer in the 200 IM (eighth); junior Bailey Valdes (eighth) and senior Alyssa Hyman (14th) in the 100 breast; junior Peyton Haines (tenth), Alyssa Hyman (13th) and senior Alexis Purpura (16th) in the 200 free; sophomore Hope Miller (11th) and junior Olivia Djagarova (15th) in the 100 back; Alexis Purpura (12th) in the 100 fly; Bailey Valdes (13th) in the 50 free and Peyton Haines (13th) in the 500 free. DP will now wait for the results of the other districts to be submitted to see who may qualify for the Regional Championship in St. Petersburg next weekend.
