Freshman Brandon Fields (2017)
With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning, sophomore Jacob Hartman ripped a 1-0 pitch into right field to score Brandon Fields with the game-winning run as Baseball rallied to beat Montgomery Bell (TN), 5-4, in the second round of the Central Florida Slam. DP (6-4) built a 4-2 lead through six innings but Bell tied the game in the top of the seventh, stringing together five singles, but the Panthers managed to escape with only two runs lost after throwing out two runners at second. DP drew first blood in their opening frame when Will Sullivan was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a bases loaded walk by Sebastian Oetterer. After Bell put up two runs in the fourth, DP responded with two runs in the fifth when Brandon Fields and August Haymaker both singled and scored for a 3-2 lead. In the sixth, James Hurst was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a passed ball to push the lead to 4-2 before the final inning thriller. Brandon Fields finished 2-3 with two runs scored to up his season batting average to .433 while Mitchell Stockwell allowed one earned run on just two hits and struck out six over six innings. DP will face West Orange today in the tournament semifinals.
