Senior linebacker Camryn Williams intercepts a pass for a touchdown vs. Winter Park (2017)
Friday night in the Spoone, Flag Football celebrated Senior Night by scoring 33 unanswered points against University to win going away, 33-6. The victory is the Panthers' 11th straight and the tenth game where the defense has allowed only a touchdown or less. University capitalized on an early first quarter interception to take a 6-0 lead inside the first two minutes but the Panthers (11-0) responded in the second quarter when Tiffany Tolbert stepped in front of a pass and returned it for a touchdown. Coupled with an Aaliyah Govan to Shiquila Bryant extra point pass, DP jumped in front for good, up 7-6. Midway through the period, Kaylee Messina connected with Tolbert on fourth and goal for a ten-yard score and Tolbert put the Panthers in scoring position again with an interception with less than a minute remaining. DP then surged to a 21-6 lead after a five-yard touchdown pass from Messina to Nisa Costa as time expired in the half. Third quarter action saw Kaylee Messina register her third touchdown pass of the night, a 15-yard score to Shiquila Bryant, to push the lead to 27-6. DP's final score of the game was set up once again by an interception. Aunjani Miller's pick preceded Samijah Butler's 40-yard touchdown reception from Messina for the final 33-6 margin. Outstanding statistics from seniors Kaylee Messina (four touchdown passes), Tiffany Tolbert (four receptions, touchdown, two interceptions, one for a score), and Camryn Williams (three flag pulls). DP will wrap up their regular season at Apopka next Thursday looking to clinch the Metro West Championship as well as a perfect regular season record.
